Since the greatest challenge faced in terms of bringing about any change in the way the justice system works is the public perception that there is nothing wrong with it and that miscarriages of justice are rare but inevitable. I have decided to present the site itself with a challenge over the following month (which may be extended or repeated in future) depending on other commitments which would affect the time available to do so to show that this is not the case.

I believe that interest in this site highlights that there is a problem but not why the public as a whole don't agree or understand why it exists. Therefore my challenge is simply this, if any visitor of the site feel they have a question or topic which reinforces their belief that there is no problem, or a query about how produced evidence can still result in wrongful conviction, I will publish an article addressing the question or opinion expressed. Any resulting article will be published within 48 hours and where possible will reference related information from out with the site to corroborate the opinion expressed within it.

These topics should be posted in this forum thread, the 48 hour period will begin upon acceptance of the topic as a related item which will be notified by a post accepting the challenge. A further post will be issued when the article has been published on the main site along with a link to it. If a suggested topic is not sufficiently related or unique a request to modify it before accepting it will be expressed.

No challenge would be in any way credible without consequence. Therefore, while I am extremely confident that sufficient material exists for me to succeed, if I should fail to publish an article on any given agreed subject within 48 hours I will write a further 2 within a week of the time period lapsing along with the related article when it is complete.

This challenge begins immediately and is open for anyone to who dares to suggest a related topic I can't return an informed view on within the specified time limit. If you are not a forum member and wish to present such a topic, feel free to sign up and issue a challenge as your first post.

Good afternoon Billy. Public perception of Life on remand is, I suspect, very different to that which it probably is. I have come accross many people who believe that it is a 'Bed of Roses' where you are treated like any innocent person on the ourside with all the rights that go hand in hand with that assumption. I therefore challenge you to write an article describing your experiences at Craiginches from the time you arrived until the time you left, including medical and dental care, hair dressing facilities, wages ??? or how else did money find its way into your account etc. Were you allowed to make phone calls to anybody you wished. If you needed personal items how were they obtained. In fact, describe how you were treated by the system and how the relevant regulations state that you should have been. Blow the myth of life being 'A Bed of Roses' on remand at Craiginches.

Good evening Mylord.

A somewhat extensive area to cover in one mere article I feel, but thankfully you have at least restricted it to the prison I was held at. Conditions do vary from prison to prison (I don't think they should), so it would be wrong for me to comment in anyway on others. However I certainly think I could do justice to the issue you have raised and also that it is very relevant, particularly if with your permission I include what effect the conditions of a remanded prisoner are kept in could have on their defence.

So I will accept that challenge and imagine I will have completed it well within the 48 hour limit.

Thanks you.

In that case I accept the challenge. However with respect Mylord that would be preside with an 's', might I graciously suggest your use of the spell check function in your secretaries absence?

I'm not sure this is the best thread to ask this in and would open a new one if I knew how but I wanted to know-why is it that during trials that not all the information is given to the Jury? Is it that the prosecution decides what is to be presented and the defense can only argue on that points. I just wondered why it seems so often that obvious and very important information is witheld from a Jury

I'm afraid Mylord although my article is finished with time to spare despite my commitments of the last 2 days, I do however have a confession. I'm afraid the text editor I drafted it on uses a different character set than the publishing suite on the site, hence some punctuation is not as it should be. Never the less the article THE EFFECTS OF PRISON LIFE ON A REMANDED PERSON'S PROSPECT OF A FAIR TRIAL. is online and I will spend the next few minutes replacing erroneous characters with the right ones.

Good evening Billy. I have just read your article in response to my challenge that you Blow the myth that Life on remand is 'A bed of Roses'. Well you certainly succeeded beyond reasonable doubt. I am sure that many, many people will have their eyes opened as to how being a prisoner on remand really is in Craiginches. I continue to admire your spirit on release from such an establishment. Once again you have demonstrated the importance of family and friends support. I am confidant, after all I have read on your site, and all that you have endured, that your site will go from strength to strength. I wonder what the next challenge will be. Very well done, keep up the good work.

Hi Billy, I have just read your article and want to say you have done very well in managing to write it. Because i knew of how your were treated (well partly) I've found the reading of it hard but only because you are my brother and i couldn't bear to hear of you mistreated, but to read it in black and white breaks my heart.

I think you have managed to blow the myth that life on remand is ' a bed of roses', as well as proving there really is a big need for this site with so many wrongly accused people out there suffering as you did.

keep up the good work , proud of you as always.

I completely agree with what Bigsis has written and it really is a heartbreaking read-you've done very well once again.

Now your probably in need of a rest but wonder if I could challenge you to write an article on why a person would be scared to proceed to appeal, as I'm aware in some cases that if an appeal fails it can have terrible consequences.
